The wildly overstated 80's throwback belts that dominated the fashion world in 2007 are as outdated as that unlamented era itself. Now its time for the thin belt, which has attracted the eye of fashionable types fond of the smaller and far more feminine accessories. Extra thin belts can be positioned above wearers' waists to suggest a more slimming profile and can be used with a loosely fitting dress, oversized skit or sweater. Suits are now sporting beltloops to accommodate the new thin belt look.
It is important that you look at comfort when buying one of the thick, high waisted belts of 2007. These belts are thinner than last year's models. There are plenty of different bright colors, patterns, and embellishments to choose from. If you are looking for an '80s retro look, choose one of the belts that is longer and loops at the end.
Another must-have accessory is the clutch purse. They are all the rage this year. Fashionable people everywhere seem to be carrying them. I personally love how they instantly dress up any clothing ensemble that I put together. Oversized clutches are not just for formal events anymore. They can go everywhere now.
While you can't pack as many of your necessities into them, I find it freeing to loose the clutter and weight of the huge hobo style bags of last year. The sizes were getting so out of hand that they began to resemble overnight bags. Whether it was there or not, my ability to find anything in the hobo bag was hindered by the other 3,000 individual items stuffed into that monstrosity.
Burberry, Donna Karen, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Fendi have been really hot on belts and clutches this year, but if you're not looking to drop a pretty penny, try Forever 21, Steve Madden or H&M. Last year's accessories could hardly be considered accessories at all. They seemed to overtake the outfit that they were supposed to be accenting. However, overstating the obvious is now a thing of the past replaced by the chic sophistication that is gracing the catwalk in 2008.
